By nature

If you want to buy an environmentally friendly chair, you should check its carbon footprint, that is, the total carbon dioxide emissions it represents over its entire useful life. If you are keen to ensure that your environmental impact is as small as possible, you can feel secure in choosing HÅG chairs. Our extensive environmental efforts, the low weight of our chairs, the limited number of components, environmentally efficient materials and extended useful life means that the carbon footprint of our chairs is barely perceptible. HÅG uses recycled materials as much as possible in producing chairs. We use recycled steel, plastic and aluminium. This generates considerable environmental gains. For example, we use about 90 percent less energy in producing footbases from recycled aluminium than if we had used virgin aluminium.

Unfortunately, many chairs on the market today contain materials that are harmful to health. For example, chrome, which is carcinogenic and can inhibit fertility, is often used on footbases. But not by HÅG. We use polished aluminium. Some companies in the sector also use chrome for leather tanning. Our solution is to use organically tanned leather. It costs a bit more, but we think it’s worth it. Both for you and the environment.

HÅG feels that all businesses bear a responsibility beyond earning money. We must also protect our environment. To safeguard sustainable development, HÅG has resolved to act as a beacon. We want to light the way into a new age by being an environmentally friendly role model.

Being a leader in development imposes major demands on us. In all modesty, we can say that we are well on our way. We began using old car bumpers and recycled plastics from soda bottle caps in our production back in 1995. We were the first manufacturer of office chairs to secure ISO 14001 certification and EMAS registration, and to produce ISO 14025-based environmental declarations for our chairs. HÅG was also the first producer of office chairs in Europe to be certified by the Greenguard Environmental Institute of the US.

The label certifies that HÅG’s products do not emit gases harmful to health.
